|Vandals off to Tallahassee|
Idaho is 1-9 and coming off its second bye of the season. Florida State remains undefeated at 10-0 and is ranked second nationally. The Seminoles have received first-place votes in two polls – Associated Press and USA Today.
Paul Petrino is in his first season at Idaho and his first as a head coach. While it is his first head coaching job, it is not Petrino’s first stint at Idaho. His coaching career began at Carroll College (his alma mater, 1989). From Carroll, he went to Idaho where he coached running back, receivers and special teams from 1992-94. From Idaho it was on to Utah State (1995-97), Louisville (1998-99), Southern Mississippi (2000-02), Louisville (2003-06), Atlanta Falcons (2007), Arkansas (2008-09), Illinois (2010-11) and Arkansas (2012).
JIMBO FISHER is in his fourth season at Florida State and is 41-10 with the Seminoles. He is a 1989 graduate of Salem College and began his coaching career at Samford (Ga.), where he coached from 1988-90 as a graduate assistant and 1991-92 as the offensive coordinator. He spent the next six seasons at Auburn (1993-98/quarterbacks) before stints at Cincinnati (1999/quarterbacks) and LSU (2000-06/offensive coordinator and quarterbacks) before joining the Florida State staff in 2007 (offensive coordinator and quarterbacks). He was elevated to head coach in 2010.
Idaho is playing the 2013 season as an FBS independent before rejoining the Sun Belt Conference in 2014. The Vandals have been independent previously – 1893-1907 and 1959-62. There are six other independent FBS programs – Army, BYU, Navy, New Mexico State, Notre Dame and Old Dominion.
This is the first game between Idaho and Florida State.
The game will be carried on ESPNU with Anish Shroff calling the play by play and Kelly Stouffer providing the analysis.
