Senior center Mike Marboe and sophomore punter Austin Rehkow head a list of 12 Vandals on Phil Steele’s preseason all-Sun Belt Conference Team.

Marboe is a three-year starter and three-year member of the Rimington Award Watch List. His string of 36 successive starts ranks fourth among active offensive linemen. There are four players with 39 successive starts, one with 38, one with 37, and two with 36. Five of the players on the list are centers.

Rehkow returns as a member of the Walter Camp Team after posting the highest punting average in the nation in 2013. His average of 47.8 yards per kick not only led the nation but was the best by a freshman punter in NCAA history as well as for any player who punted a minimum of 75 times in a single season.

Four other Vandals – receiver Dezmon Epps, defensive end Maxx Forde, defensive tackle Quayshawne Buckley and linebacker Marc Millan, all were second team choices, while quarterback Matt Linehan and receiver Joshua McCain are third-team choices. On the fourth team, are cornerback Jayshawn Jordan, safety Bradley Njoku, defensive tackle Alfonso Hampton and return specialist Richard Montgomery. Linehan will continue his battle with Chad Chalich for the starting quarterback role this fall, while McCain will be making his first appearances at receiver after a season at quarterback. Hampton also will be seeing his first action as a Vandal after transferring from Southwestern College.
