DENVER - Idaho thrower Mykael Bothum is the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of January 18-24, announced Wednesday.
Bothum, a senior from Hermiston, Ore. (Hermiston HS), won the women's shot put at the Cougar Indoor Invitational with a season-best throw of 16.08m (52-9.25). The throw moves her to 10th in the NCAA in the event and gives her the best throw in the WAC by more than a seven-foot margin.
The honor is the first of the season for Bothum and the fourth of her career. She is the second Vandal to earn the honor so far this season.
The Idaho track and field team will be in action this weekend at the UW Invitational at Seattle. The Vandals will have their first home action the following weekend with the 35th Annual Vandal Indoor and the Runner's Soul Open on Feb. 5 and 6.
