WINNIPEG, Manitoba - University of Idaho freshman standout
track and field athlete Alycia Butterworth put another notch on her belt with a
Canadian junior national title on Friday.
Butterworth, along with teammate Hannah Kiser, made history
in 2011 as the first women's freshman NCAA qualifiers at Idaho. On Friday at the Canada
Junior National Championships, she cruised to a 16-second margin of victory in
the 2000m steeplechase with a time of 6:46.02. It's the first national title of
her career.
In the 3000m steeplechase at Idaho this year, Butterworth
earned an NCAA Quarterfinal bid at the West Preliminary Round competition. She
was the Western Athletic Conference runner-up and first-team all-WAC honoree in
the event. Her season-best time of 10:37.27 at the Oregon Twilight to move into
sixth all-time at Idaho in the steeplechase.
