vs. South Dakota
This Week's Opponents: Texas Tech (0-0-0)
The Red Raiders received one first-place vote and were picked to finish fifth in the Big 12 Conference this season under sixth-year head coach Tom Stone. TTU went 10-8-2 overall last year and finished fourth in the Big 12 - tied for its best finish in the conference. The team returns 19 letterwinners and seven starters from that squad, including 2012 Preseason All-Big 12 selections, Jaelene Hinkle, a defender, and Tiffini Smith, a midfielder. In 2012 spring play, Texas Tech went 4-0-1 without surrendering a goal. They beat Utah 1-0 in fall exhibition play.
South Dakota (0-0-0)
The Coyotes fielded the nation’s youngest team a year ago with 21 freshmen on the roster and finished with a 1-15-3 record. This year, they return 10 starters and 19 letterwinners in the third year of head coach Mandy Green’s watch, including eight of their top 10 scorers from 2011. The Coyotes have played two exhibition games this fall, with a 1-0 victory at Northern Iowa and a 2-1 loss at Nebraska-Omaha. USD opens its season on Friday at Gonzaga before playing the Vandals.
