OGDEN, Utah—The University of Idaho could not contain the spark of the Weber State offense, dropping its first game of the season 3-0 this afternoon. The game was scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. PT start but the teams were forced to clear the field for 30 minutes due to a lightning delay.

“Unfortunately for us I think lightning struck more than once today,” head coach Pete Showler said. “We knew we would take some lumps and bumps early on, playing some tough games and we found that out today. We will learn from our mistakes and move on to next game. We just need to take care of what we can control.”

Weber State (1-0-0) controlled the tempo of the game from the beginning. The Wildcats totaled 27 shots with 13 of those shots finding their way to keepers Marina Siegl and Torell Stewart. Idaho (0-0-1) managed just two shots on net.

The first 24 minutes went by scoreless. In the 25th minute Weber State notched the game winner off the foot of Stacy Bair from 15 yards out. WSU added two more goals in the second half from Sarah Thurston and Mackenzie Day to secure the lead and the match.

The Vandals came out much more aggressive in the second half but were unable to get any offensive momentum. Idaho will look to even out the road trip on Sunday as it  faces Idaho State. Kickoff from Pocatello will be at 11:00 a.m. PT.
