MOSCOW—The University of Idaho soccer team earned its third consecutive National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award on Thursday by earning a 3.55 cumulative GPA in the 2012-13 season.

“This just shows the kind of quality student-athletes that we have joining our program,” head coach Pete Showler said. “I’m very proud of their achievements. They put a lot of hard work in, on-and-off the pitch, especially during the season. It is a tough time for them to maintain such phenomenal grades, getting a 3.55 is a testament to all the hard work they do put in.”

A total of 863 soccer teams (270 men, 593 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 academic year.

“There is a reason student comes before athlete in that terminology,” Showler explained. “Our team, amongst other teams at Idaho do a fantastic job representing the academic side of things and represent the University of Idaho in a positive light. I’m very proud of them.”
