|Soccer Sets Spring Schedule|
MOSCOW, Idaho—The University of Idaho women’s soccer team has been training rain, snow or shine for the past few weeks in preparation for its first spring season under the direction of recently hired head coach Derek Pittman.
“The team has been putting in a lot of work the last five to six weeks and now it is time to play against some opponents that will test our toughness, mentally and physically,” Pittman stated.
Idaho will play an eight game spring season that will wrap up with a season ending tournament in late April, Pittman announced on Tuesday.
“The objective of any offseason is to find ways to develop in all areas of the game and continue to measure yourself in matches that test those areas of development,” Pittman said. “The set of spring games that we have on tap will do just that and we are looking forward to growing and improving as a team each time we step out on the field.”
Idaho will begin its spring tune up this Saturday, Mar. 1, with two matches against Montana and Boise State in Pasco, Wash. The team will continue training in March, before welcoming back past soccer alumni on Mar. 29, for the annual alumni game at 10:30 a.m. Following the alumni match Idaho will travel across the Palouse to take on Washington State at 2:30 p.m.
April boasts the bulk of Idaho’s spring games. The Vandals will take on Pittman’s former team, Gonzaga, in the first of two games set for Saturday, Apr. 5. Idaho will be in Spokane to face the ‘Zags at 9 a.m., followed by a 3:30 p.m. match with Central Washington. Idaho will play its final two games on Apr. 12. The Silver and Gold will host North Idaho College at 10:30 a.m., before traveling to Spokane to take on Concordia at 3:30 p.m.
Idaho will conclude its spring schedule with a 7-on-7 tournament hosted by Gonzaga.
All matches are 70 minutes with the exception of the Alumni Game that will be 60 minutes.
