Laune Erickson was one the best among Idaho’s national powerhouse boxing program of the 1940s. A three-time NCAA Champion, Erickson won the 1940 crown at 165 pounds, then successfully defended his title again in 1941. After a six-year stint with the armed forces in World War II, he returned to Idaho in 1947 and won the NCAA title at the 175-pound weight class. In addition to his three individual titles, he also helped lead the team to three NCAA team titles. The Vandals won outright titles in 1940 and 1941 and shared the title in 1947. Among the Pacific Coast Conference, Erickson was a two-time titlist in 1940 and 1947 and led the team to a 1940 PCC title.
