DENVER - For the second time in her career and the first time this season, Idaho sophomore outside hitter Allison Walker has earned Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week honors.

Walker helped the Vandals to back-to-back three-set wins over Eastern Washington and Utah State during the week, as she averaged 6.67 kills, 4.83 digs and 6.92 points per set while hitting .202. Walker extended her double-double streak to six matches as she finished with a season-high 24 kills and a career-best 17 digs at Eastern Washington and had 16 kills and 12 digs against defending WAC tournament champion Utah State.

"The thing that she's doing right now is she is playing the whole game," Idaho coach Debbie Buchanan said. "She's passing, she's serving, she's playing defense as well as the offensive side of it. In the past when we've had a great hitter we haven't always had the back row with it. She is really picking up the whole game and she's able to do everything."

The Vandals are 9-9 on the season and 3-2 in the WAC, and have won three straight matches for the first time this season. Idaho currently leads the WAC in digs and opponent hitting percentage, and ranks second in hitting percentage and kills.

"We're playing well right now," Buchanan said. "We're digging a ton of balls, which allows us to get in position to hit. We're in a much better position to let our offense have a great game because of what our defense is doing and what the passers are doing which lets us highlight a hitter a little bit more."

The Vandals are at home for a pair of WAC matches this week as Nevada (Oct. 13) and Fresno State visit Moscow. Both matches start at 7 p.m. in Memorial Gym.
