DENVER – Two University of Idaho track and field athletes were honored as Western Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week, for the week of April 15-21.

Idaho junior Hannah Kiser earned WAC Women’s Indoor Athlete of the Week while junior Kyle Rothwell earned the same honor on the men’s side.

Kiser, a junior from Wenatchee, Wash., broke the WAC all-time record and Idaho school record in the 5,000m, Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays. Her time of 15:44.06 smashed the Idaho school record set in 1982 by nearly 26-seconds and broke the WAC record by 17-seconds. Kiser has now set three records this year. She broke the WAC all-time and Idaho school record in the indoor mile (4:37.55) and the 3,000m (9:04.74). Her WAC leading 5,000m time ranks fourth in the NCAA West and seventh in the NCAA so far this season.

Rothwell, a junior from Eagle, Idaho, opened the weekend with a second-place heave of 62.43m (204-10) in the men’s hammer throw Friday at the Mt. SAC relays. He then went on to post a season-best mark in the shot put Saturday with a toss of 15.22m (49-11.25). Rothwell improved his Idaho all-time top-10 entry from 10th to fifth with his hammer throw mark. His career-best hammer throw performance improves his four-week WAC leading mark, ranks 15th in the NCAA West and 30th in the NCAA so far this season.
