Porch leads Vandals into tie for third

PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of Idaho men’s golf team is off to a strong start to the spring season with a tie for third at the 23-team Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate over the weekend.

The Vandals finished at 15-under 849 to tie with Texas Christian for third. Oregon won the 54-hole event with an 837 with Colorado second at 840.

Leading the way for the Vandals was freshman Ryann Porch, who started the final day in a tie for 36th and rocketed into a tie for third with a closing round 65. His seven-under 209 was the result of rounds of 75-69-65 and just one stroke out of second. TCU’s Julien Brun was the tournament medalist with a 203.

Also for Idaho, Sean McMullen tied for 25th with a 214, Aaron Cockerill tied for 31st with a 215, Jared du Toit tied for 36th with a 216 and Rylee Iacolucci tied for 62nd with a 221.
