LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Shooting the lowest round of the day wasn't quite enough for the University of Idaho Vandals to catch frontrunner New Mexico State but they aren't coming home empty-handed.

Not only did Ryan Porch finish third in the championship tournament, with a closing round two-under 70 for a 54-hole 214 but teammates Aaron Cockerill and Jared du Toit earned first-team all-conference honors. Du Toit also recognized as the Freshman of the Year and Rylee Iacolucci was a second-team all-conference choice.

As for Sunday's final round, Porch's third featured the only sub-par round by a Vandal but he was joined in the top 20 by all of his teammates. Du Toit was eight after finishing at 218, Cockerill tied for ninth after a 219, Iacolucci tied for 12th at 220, and Sean McMullen tied for 20th at 225.

The Vandals had a collective 866 over the three days with New Mexico State winning with an 856. Utah Valley was third at 889.

"Their heads are not down," coach John Means said. "They played very strong for a young team. They are disappointed and more determined than ever."

Winds howled throughout the day at Saddle Mountain Golf Club, which, Means said, had less of an impact than they did Saturday.

"Conditions were terrible but we managed to fire the low round of the day," he said.
