A formidable boxer at 127 lbs., Frank Kara was an NCAA national champion in 1941 and a Pacific Coast Conference champ in 1940. He helped the boxing team earn their first two NCAA team titles in 1940 and 1941 and a 1940 Pacific Coast Conference title. Kara’s 1941 national title was special because his brother Ted Kara, who fought at 120 lbs., also won a title that year. It was the first time in NCAA history that a combination of brothers had won NCAA titles in the same tournament.
