|Bendeck wins consolation draw|
SEATTLE - For most of the Idaho men's tennis team, the Pacific Northwest Intercollegiate was the final event of the fall season, and the Vandals made the most of it, as Jose Bendeck won the consolation bracket in one draw, and Matt Oddonnetto made the consolation finals in the other.
After losing in his opening match, Bendeck won three straight matches before his opponent in the consolation finals withdrew because in injury. In the other consolation bracket, Oddonnetto advanced to the finals with two wins and a withdrawal before falling in the finals.
Cristobal Ramos Salazar, Abid Akbar and Jake Knox each won their first singles match in the main draw, but couldn't advance deeper.
In doubles play Knox and Filip Fichtel reached the second round with an opening-round win, while the pairings of Akbar and Ramos Salazar, and Bendeck and Torres fell in the opening round.
Akbar and Marius Cirstea will travel to the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing, N.Y., this week for the 20-team doubles championships.
