University of Idaho senior Marius Cirstea was honored as the WAC Tennis Player of the Week after a 2-0 singles outing and a 1-1 doubles performance in the Vandals' matches against Liberty University and Hawai`i.
Against Liberty while playing in the No. 2 position, he won a hard-fought 7-6 (8), 6-4 victory before winning 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 3 spot against Hawai`i. In doubles against Hawai`i, he teamed with Abid Akbar to win 8-5 as the Vandals improved to 15-1 overall as a team.
"Marius is very deserving of this award," coach Jeff Beaman said. "He has made great strides and is having a great senior year. It's great to see where he is in his senior year. He's having an amazing season in both singles and doubles. He's made tremendous progress."
