|MTEN falls to SMU; tops UTA|
DALLAS, Texas – The No. 61 Idaho men’s tennis team suffered a 4-2 loss at the hands of SMU on Sunday but bounced back with a 4-0 win over UT Arlington on Monday.
The Vandals had won seven of their last eight matches before falling to SMU on Sunday.
“SMU is a team that has been on a hot streak,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. “We had our chances but they played well to beat us. Our guys should be used to the different conditions.”
Idaho moves to 19-3 on the season and 4-0 in Western Athletic Conference play with the win over UT Arlington. However, the win didn’t come without a price. Senior Marius Cirstea went down with an injury in doubles play against the Mavs.
“Unfortunately we lost Marius to an injury in doubles,” Beaman said. “For the guys to step up and get the 4-0 win without him was a positive result.”
The Vandals wrap up their road trip at Oklahoma State on Tuesday. That match has been moved to the indoor tennis facility on the campus of Tulsa University due to inclement weather, and will begin at 10:00 a.m. (PT).
“Playing Oklahoma State is going to be a tough match but we’ve shown we can compete against tough teams.”
