DENVER – Cristobal Ramos Salazar continued Idaho’s streak of WAC honors on Tuesday when he earned WAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for Feb. 3-9.

Ramos Salazar, a junior from Hermosillo, Mexico, went a combined 4-0 on the week with a pair of straight-set singles wins and two wins at the top doubles spot, including an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles over No. 44 Washington.  In the No. 4 singles slot, Ramos Salazar beat Washington’s Jeff Hawke 6-2, 6-3 and San Francisco’s Rich Van Hout 6-2, 6-2. He improves to 6-0 in doubles, all at No. 1, and 5-1 in singles this season, for a combined mark of 11-1 through Idaho’s first six matches.

“I have been very pleased with Cristobal’s commitment to getting in better shape and playing mentally tougher and the results show the work he has put in,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. “The exciting thing is he still has a ways to go in improving things he controls so with continued hard work he has only started to realize his true potential.”

Four Idaho men’s tennis players have combined to capture all six weekly or monthly WAC honors given out in 2013-14. Jose Bendeck earned WAC Player of the Month for September and October, and WAC Player of the Week on Jan. 27. Artemiy Nikitin was WAC Player of the Month for November and Odon Barta was recognized as the WAC Player of the Week on Feb. 3.
