PULLMAN, Wash. - Two weeks. Two trophies. The University of Idaho women's golf team is off to its hottest start in school history after winning the WSU Inland Cup at Palouse Ridge Golf Course Wednesday afternoon.

"It's quite an accomplishment," said coach Lisa Johnson, whose team is ranked 17th by GolfStat and 26th by GolfWeek. "It's a great achievement to win the second week in a row."

The Vandals, led by Kayla Mortellaro's medalist honors, Amanda Jacobs' runner-up and Teo Poplawksi's fourth, were two strokes off the lead after the first round. They ran off with the second round to take a 12-stroke lead going into Wednesday's final 18. They stretched their winning margin to 13 with a collective 903 to runner-up Nevada's 916. Sacramento State was third with 918 in the 13-team field.

"I'm really proud of them," Johnson said. "It's obvious that, individually, we put in a lot of work this summer. We came back on a mission to prove what Idaho golf is all about. It's really enjoyable to watch how well they've come together as a team and the successes we've had thus far."

Johnson said one of the keys to Idaho's success is the friendly week-in, week-out rivalries that have developed.

Mortellaro, a sophomore ranked eighth by GolfStat, and Jacobs, the team's only senior, had a down-to-the-wire battle for medalist honors. Jacobs was the opening-round leader with a 72, while Mortellaro was two back at 74. Mortellaro took the lead the second day with a 71, while Jacobs had a 74 as the gap closed to a single stroke. Both had 74s in Wednesday's closing round.

Poplawski , a sophomore ranked 12th by GolfStat, was four back at 224 in fourth, while sophomore Frida Nilsson tied for 29th (240) and sophomore Annika Karlsson tied for 46th (245). Playing as individuals, freshman Allyssa Nilsson tied for 36th (241) and sophomore Gracie Schory tied for 58th (250).
