COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho - The University of Idaho football team, head coach Robb Akey and offensive guard Mike Iupati were honored at the 48th annual North Idaho Sports Banquet on a night when former Vandals were inducted into the North Idaho Hall of Fame.

The Idaho football team was recognized as the College Team of the Year after proving preseason predictors, who picked them to finish at the bottom of the Western Athletic Conference, wrong by winning the 2009 Humanitarian Bowl. The Vandals' 8-5 record was the second most improved in the FBS.

Akey was honored as the College Coach of the Year for leading the Vandals and Iupati was the Male College Athlete of the Year after a senior season during which he was a consensus All-American.

Two Vandal Athletics Hall of Famers - former quarterback Doug Nussmeier and basketball standout Alli Nieman, were inducted into the North Idaho Hall of Fame during Saturday night's sports banquet. Idaho volleyball coach Debbie (Martin) Buchanan's high school volleyball team, St. Maries, was enshrined in Saturday's Hall of Fame ceremony as well.
