|Klas, Midles claim WAC weekly honors|
DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference announced Idaho's Jeremy Klas and Gabby Midles as its Verizon Wireless Men's and Women's Field Athletes of the Week after the two had strong performances at the WAR3 Dual meet on Saturday.
Klas earned his second career weekly conference award after clearing a WAC-best 16-8.75 (5.10m) to win the men's pole vault at the meet. The height is an outdoor personal best for the sophomore from Moscow, Idaho (Moscow HS), and ties him for second all-time at Idaho in the event.
Midles, a sophomore from Camas, Wash. (Camas HS), earned her first career weekly award after hitting a personal-best 187-11 (57.28m) in the hammer throw at the WAR3 meet. That toss is the best in the WAC this year by a four-foot margin and also ranks 13th in the West Region and 28th in the NCAA.
Midles also improved her standing as second all-time at Idaho in the event and is less than three feet away from Jenn Broncheau's school record of 190-10 (58.17m) from 2006.
The awards are Idaho's fourth and fifth of the outdoor track and field season. Vandal athletes took five weekly honors during the 2010 indoor season.
Klas, Midles, and the rest of the Idaho track and field team will be in action all week long at the Mt. SAC Relays at Walnut, Calif.
