Idaho Tennis 2009-10 Media Guide
The Idaho women's tennis team has had a great season so far in 2010, as the Vandals rode a 16-match winning streak for two months of the season, and hold a 17-4 overall record.
The veteran team consisting of all juniors and seniors is led by Gabriela Niculescu and Maria Perevoshchikov, who are a combined 25-6 on the season. Niculescu has played all 14 of her matches at the No. 1 spot, and is 12-2 on the year. Perevoshchikov has split time between the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, and is 13-4 on the year. As a team, the Vandals are a combined 30-10 at the top two singles spots, including 17-3 at No. 1, for a .850 winning percentage.
With the Western Athletic Conference Championships still ahead, the Idaho women's tennis team has high expectations for the conclusion of the 2010 season.
The Vandal men's tennis team has had a great amount of success in 2010, building a 21-8 record heading down the final stretch of the season despite starting the year 3-3 overall. The Vandals went on to win 11 of their next 12 matches to get back to their winning ways.
Idaho has had its greatest success coming in the middle of the lineup, with the No. 4 and No. 5 spots leading the way with 22-5 (.814) and 19-7 (.731) records so far this season. A large part of that has to do with Stanislav Glukhov, who is 14-3 at the No. 4 spot, and Alexandru Joitoiu, who is 12-3 at the No. 5 spot. But the rest of the lineup is getting the job done as well, as the Vandals are above .500 at all six singles positions.
The Vandals final two regular season matches are both at home as they host Eastern Washington (April 20) and Lewis-Clark State College (April 25) before heading to the Western Athletic Conference Championships.
