|Vandals sweep EWU 7-0|
CHENEY, Wash. - The Idaho women's tennis team showed no signs of Saturday's hard-fought 4-3 win over Portland one day later, as it cruised to a 7-0 victory over Eastern Washington in Cheney, Wash., on Sunday.
After fighting to win the doubles point 2-1, the Vandals won all six singles matches, including four in straight sets, to complete the 7-0 sweep.
"We had a solid team performance today," Idaho head coach Tyler Neil said. "I thought everyone played well. Eastern Washington is a tough team to play at their courts, but I thought we handled it well. We started off a little slow in doubles, but were able to keep it close and eventually squeak out two wins."
Vicky Lozano and Lauren Simpson teamed up to win 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Simpson got a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, while Lozano won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to help propel the Vandals.
After dropping the first set at No. 3 singles, Silvia Irimescu rallied back to win the next two sets 6-1 and 10-7 to clinch the third singles point.
"I thought Lauren and Vicky played very well in singles and doubles," Neill said. "They have really solidified themselves at the top of our lineup.
"Silvia had a very tough matchup. She got down early, but kept fighting and found a way to win. I was very impressed with her resiliency today."
Barbara Maciocha won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, Molly Knox won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5, and Alejandra Lozano won 5-7, 6-1, 10-3 at No. 6.
The Vandals improve to 4-1 on the season with the win, and will return to action on Feb 20, when they host Boise State on Feb. 20 in Pullman, Wash.
