|Vandals top Chaminade 5-2|
HONOLULU, Hawai`i – The Idaho women’s tennis team wrapped up its four-match road trip with a 5-2 win over Chaminade on Sunday.
The Vandals won all three doubles matches to take the doubles point, and won the No. 3, 4, 5, and 6 singles matches to claim the victory.
Idaho improves to 11-4 on the season with the win, and is 2-2 in Western Athletic Conference play.
“We won today with our depth and overall talent, but I think we need to be able to compete a little better throughout our lineup,” Idaho coach Tyler Neill said. “Chaminade fought hard and made it difficult for us. I am happy to get the win and end the trip on a good note.”
Victoria Lozano and Lauren Simpson teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-6, while Alejandra Lozano and Molly Knox won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles and Barbara Maciocha and Natalie Kirch won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Victoria Lozano and Silvia Irimescu fell at the top two singles spots for Idaho, but the rest of the lineup picked up the slack, as Maciocha won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, Knox won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, Alejandra Lozano won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 and Kirch won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6. Maciocha’s win moved her into a tie for first in Idaho’s the all-time singles career victories list.
Knox improved to 4-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles on the week with her wins Sunday.
“Molly had a great weekend,” Neill said “It is great seeing her play this well and I think the best is still to come for her.”
The Vandals return to action April 9 when they host Utah State and Gonzaga.
