|Women's tennis falls to UCR|
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Idaho women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss at the hands of UC Riverside Thursday, as the Highlanders took the doubles point and the top four singles matches to earn the win.
The loss drops Idaho to 13-6 on the season, with a pair of Western Athletic Conference matches remaining over the weekend. The Vandals will take on San Jose State on Friday, and Fresno State on Saturday.
"This is a disappointing loss," Idaho head coach Tyler Neill said. "We weren't mentally strong in our matches and it showed in the results. We definitely did not play up to our capabilities. Hopefully we can grow from this loss and play better going forward."
The Vandals took the No. 3 doubles match as Barbara Maciocha and Natalie Kirch teamed up to win 8-5, but UCR won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to take the point. Kirch was also able to get a singles win at No. 6, winning 6-2, 6-3, but Molly Knox at No. 5 was the only other Vandal to win a singles match, as Idaho fell 5-2.
"Natalie played well," Neill said. "She looked confident throughout her match and controlled the points on her terms."
Idaho will return home for two matches next week, as it hosts Eastern Washington on April 19 and Lewis-Clark State College on April 23 before heading to the WAC tournament April 29-May 1.
