FRESNO, Calif. - The Idaho women's tennis team picked up its fourth Western Athletic Conference win on Friday with a 6-1 win over San Jose State in Fresno, Calif.
The Vandals took the doubles point with wins at the top two doubles spots, and cruised to two-set wins at No. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 singles.
"We still aren't playing to our full potential, but this was definitely a step forward," Idaho coach Tyler Neill said. "Our doubles was little sloppy, but we managed to get two of the three matches. In singles, the team really stepped up. We controlled the points and played them the way we wanted to. We looked much more confident in singles."
The win lifts Idaho to 14-6 on the season and 4-2 in the WAC. The Vandals have just one conference match left before the WAC tournament April 29-May, as they take on Fresno State on Saturday.
"It's always good to get another conference win and solidify our seeding for the conference tournament," Neill said.
Victoria Lozano won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for Idaho, while Lauren Simpson had a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2. Barbara Maciocha won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, Molly Knox won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5 and Yvette Ly won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 for Idaho.
After facing Fresno State, the Vandals will wrap up the regular season at home with matches against Eastern Washington on April 19 and Lewis-Clark State College on April 23.
