|Women's tennis downed|
FRESNO, Calif. - The Idaho women's tennis team was outmatched on Saturday against Fresno State as the Vandals fell to the Bulldogs 7-0.
The loss drops Idaho to 14-7 on the season and 4-3 in Western Athletic Conference play.
"Fresno State is a very tough team, but we didn't play up to our capabilities," Idaho coach Tyler Neill said. "We started off hot in doubles, taking leads in two of the three matches, but we weren't just able to hold on."
Idaho best chances to win a match were at the No. 2 doubles spot, where Yvette Ly and Molly Knox fell 8-7, and at No. 4 singles, where Barbara Maciocha fell in three sets, 7-6, 6-1, 10-3, after winning the first set.
"We competed hard, but we didn't play smart and we gave them too many easy points," Neil said. "We needed to find a way to make them play longer points and hit more balls each point, but we weren't able to do it."
The Vandals will close out their season at home as they host Eastern Washington on April 19, and Lewis-Clark State College on April 23. The WAC tournament is April 29-May 1 in Boise, Idaho.
