BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Idaho women’s tennis team earned its 15th win of the season on Sunday as it beat Cal. State Bakersfield 5-2.
The Vandals took the doubles point easily with 8-1 wins at the top two spots, and an 8-2 win at No. 3.
“I was very happy with our doubles,” Idaho coach Tyler Neill said. “We came out strong and got them down early.”
In singles, the Vandals got wins from Victoria Lozano at No. 1, Barbara Maciocha at No. 4, Molly Knox at No. 5 and Alejandra Lozano at No. 6.
Victoria Lozano put together a near flawless performance at the top spot for the Vandals, as she won her match 6-1, 6-0.
“In singles, we definitely could have played smarter but overall I am happy with the results,” Neill said. “Vicky played really well today. She played smart and aggressive tennis throughout her match, and never gave her opponent much of a chance.”
Idaho improves to 15-7 on the season with the win.
The Vandals will close out their season at home as they host Eastern Washington on April 19, and Lewis-Clark State College on April 23. The WAC tournament is April 29-May 1 in Boise, Idaho.
