|Seven seniors play final match|
MOSCOW, Idaho - Seven Idaho women's tennis players will play in their final home match on Saturday, as the Vandals take on Lewis and Clark State College at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Gym tennis courts.
Seniors Silvia Irimescu, Natalie Kirch, Yvette Ly, Dana Panter, Barbara Maciocha, Jana Siwa and Justine Textor will be honored in a senior day presentation after the match, as the Vandals close out the regular season against the Warriors.
All seven seniors came into the program at the start of the 2007-08 season, and have spent all four years at Idaho.
"We have seven great seniors who have all been her for four years, they all came in together and it's pretty rare, especially in college tennis, to have that many players go through all four years together," Idaho coach Tyler Neill said. "When teams have ten to twelve players on the roster, having seven players together for that long is really something special."
Idaho's senior class has compiled a 72-35 record over the last four years, and won a program-record 20 matches in each of the last two years.
"They're the class that really took this program to a new level," Neill said. "They haven't known losing. They've had four straight winning seasons, and set records for most wins in a year the last two years, so obviously it's a pretty special class. I think they're leaving this program a lot better than when they came into it."
Idaho is 16-6 on the season and 4-3 in the Western Athletic Conference heading into the finale. The Vandals and Warriors have met once this season already, with Idaho wining 7-0 back on Jan. 22 in Lewiston.
Saturday's match will also be Campus Kids Day, an event sponsored by the United States Tennis Association, designed to introduce kids to college tennis. Food, drinks and prizes will be given out as part of the event.
After Saturday's match, the Vandals will head to the WAC tournament April 28-May 1 in Boise, Idaho.
