|Vandals win on senior day|
MOSCOW, Idaho -The Idaho women's tennis team sent its seven seniors out with a 5-2 win over Lewis-Clark State College on Saturday to finish the regular season with a 17-7 overall record.
"It was nice to get our seniors out there playing today, and get one final home match," Idaho coach Tyler Neill said. "I thought we played pretty well. I though LCSC competed really well and they made it tough for us, but we responded in most of our matches and I thought we matched their intensity."
The Vandals made quick work of the doubles point, winning 8-2 at No. 1, 8-1 at No. 2 and 8-2 at No. 3. In singles action, Barbara Maciocha won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, Silvia Irimescu won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3, Molly Knox won 6-0, 7-6 at No. 4 and Natalie Kirch won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5 to give the Vandals the victory.
The Vandals own a 4-3 Western Athletic Conference record to go along with their 17-7 overall mark, and will be either the No. 4 or No. 5 seed in next week's WAC tournament. Idaho will get the tournament started in the No. 4 vs. No. 5 match on April 28. The tournament will take place in Boise, Idaho and run through May 1.
"I still think we need to get a little more practice heading into the tournament, and work on a few shots, but other than that I think we're competing hard, which is good," Neill said. "Obviously whoever we play is going to be a tough team, and we have to be playing up to our potential in order to win or have a competitive match."
Saturday's match was the final home match for Vandal seniors Jana Siwa, Justine Textor, Yvette Ly, Knox, Irimescu, Maciocha and Kirch.
