DENVER - Alyssa Charlston excelled in every phase of the game in a pair of road wins over Texas State and UTSA last Thursday and Saturday, and Monday the 6-foot-1 post was honored as the Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The honor is the second of Charlston's career and first this season.

The junior from Sammamish, Wash., had her seventh double-double of the season with a 14-point, 17-rebound performance in Idaho's 72-60 win against Texas State. She hit 7-of-13 shots in that game, and her 17 rebounds were a season-high.

She followed that up with 11 points, six rebounds and a career-high tying five blocked shots in a win at UTSA. She went 5-of-10 from the field in that game as Idaho's 64-45 victory broke a third place tie with UTSA in the WAC standings. The 45 points Idaho allowed was a season-low for a Vandal opponent, and with the help of 13 blocks, the Vandals held UTSA to 27 percent shooting in the game.

For the week, Charlston averaged 12.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game while shooting 52.2 percent from the field and 57 percent from inside the 3-point line.

"Alyssa certainly played extremely well and was huge on the glass and very consistent offensively," Idaho coach Jon Newlee said. "Her shot selection was great, and her percentage was great. She played hard and she played great defensively too."

The Vandals extended their winning streak to three games and won their fourth straight WAC road game, and are now 6-3 in WAC play. Second place in the WAC will be on the line later this week when the Vandals visit Utah State (7-2), which sits just one game ahead of Idaho in the conference standings.

"Anytime you get individual awards, they're team related," Newlee said. "Our team played well last week on the road. All around it was a great two games for our team and for Alyssa at both ends of the floor."
