|Vandal women top TXST|
LEWISTON, Idaho – In another down-to-the wire match, the Idaho women’s tennis team edged Texas State 4-3 in Lewiston, Idaho on Sunday.
The Vandals had a chance to win the doubles point with match-point in the deciding match, but Texas State battled back to win and get the early lead. But Idaho responded with singles wins from Victoria Lozano, Constance Alexander, Belen Barcenilla and Beaty Flores to get the 4-3 win.
“We lost the doubles point in the deciding match, in the tie-breaker and we had match point,” Idaho coach Myriam Sopel said. “It was a tough doubles point. But we responded really well after losing a tight doubles point. We played really smart tennis and showed some great tenacity on all courts.”
The Vandals improve to 11-11 on the season and 4-4 in WAC play with the win. Idaho wraps up the regular season at Utah State on April 20 before heading to the WAC tournament April 25-28 in Denver.
“Once again, we proved that we can compete against anybody and beat anybody,” Sopel said. “It is a great win for the confidence as we get ready for the conference tournament in a couple weeks."
