|Vandals top Ducks on Senior Day|
MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho senior Almudena Sanz celebrated Senior Day with a match-clinching three-set win at No. 2 singles as the Idaho women’s tennis team defeated Oregon 4-3 in Moscow on Friday afternoon.
The Vandals took the doubles point and jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match but the Ducks evened things at 3-3 with three consecutive singles victories. Sanz battled in the second set at No. 2 singles to win 7-6(4) before clinching the match with a 6-2 third-set victory.
“It’s a great result for this team,” Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. “For Almu to clinch the team win at number two against a really tough opponent on Senior Day will hopefully get her confidence up and give her a big boost heading into the conference tournament.”
Idaho improves to 17-4 on the season as it enters its regular-season finale at Montana on Apr. 20. The Western Athletic Conference tournament is Apr. 25-27 in Las Cruces, N.M.
