Two Vandal track and field athletes, one a 2010 graduate and the other a 2011 freshman, were selected this week to represent Canada in international competition.

Christie Gordon, a five-time first-team all-Western Athletic Conference honoree, 2010 NCAA Preliminary Round qualifier and three-time NCAA Regional qualifier in the 100m hurdles, will represent her home country in the hurdles at the 2011 Athletics Summer Universiade (FISU), which will be held at Shenzhen, China, from Aug. 16-21.

Gordon was selected to the team after finishing fourth at the Canadian National Championships earlier this year at Calgary. In the preliminary round of that meet, she ran a career-best time of 13.20 in the 100m hurdles. She finished her Idaho career ranked second all-time with a best of 13.37 as a Vandal.

Alycia Butterworth, who completed in freshman season at Idaho in 2010-11, won the Canada junior national title in the 2000m steeplechase in early July at Winnipeg, and was selected to represent her country in the 3000m steeplechase at the Pan American Junior Championship, July 22-24 at Miramar, Fla.

Butterworth burst onto the scene for Idaho in her first season. She, along with 2011 teammate Hannah Kiser, became the first female Vandal freshman NCAA qualifier and was an NCAA quarterfinalist in the 3000m steeplechase. She was a first-team all-WAC honoree after a runner-up finish in the 3000m steeplechase at the WAC Outdoor Championships, and moved into sixth all-time at Idaho with a best of 10:37.27 in the event.
