|Idaho fifth seed in WAC Tourney|
MOSCOW, Idaho - The Idaho volleyball team is heading to its sixth consecutive Western Athletic Conference tournament next week, earning the No. 5 seed and a first-round matchup with Boise State.
This will be the second straight year the Vandals and Broncos have met in the first round. In 2009, No. 6 Boise State upset No. 3 Idaho with a 3-1 win. The Vandals and Broncos split a pair of matches in the regular season with both teams winning at home. Idaho fell 3-2 in Boise on Sept. 29, before beating BSU 3-1 in Moscow on Oct. 2.
The Vandals and Broncos finished in a tie for fourth place in the WAC standings, with both teams finishing 8-8 in conference play. BSU won the tie-breaker over Idaho for its win over No. 2 New Mexico State earlier in the year. The Broncos won their last four conference matches of the season to clinch a berth to the WAC tournament.
Idaho's Kelsey Taylor earned WAC Player of the Week honors for her work in Idaho's two matches against BSU. Taylor had her first double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 blocks at Boise State on Sept. 29.
With a win in the opening round of the WAC tournament, the Vandals will advance to face Hawai'i in the WAC semifinals. Hawai'i went 16-0 in the WAC to claim the WAC regular season championship. UH is 27-1 on the season, and is ranked No. 3 nationally. The Rainbow Wahine won all 16 of their conference matches 3-0, and extended their WAC winning streak to 41. Hawai'i has won 22 consecutive matches overall heading into the WAC tournament.
Hawai'i finished the WAC regular season at 16-0 and is the regular season WAC champion. New Mexico State earned the No. 2 seed with a 12-4 WAC record, and both teams earned a first-round bye in the WAC tournament. Utah State earned the No. 3 seed with a 9-7 WAC record, followed by BSU and Idaho at 8-8, and Nevada clinching the No. 6 seed at 7-9. The Vandals went 4-6 in 2010 against the other five WAC teams who make up the WAC tournament field.
The Vandals are 2-5 all-time in the WAC tournament, advancing to the semi-finals twice since joining the conference in 2005. All seven of Idaho's previous WAC tournament matches have come against 2010 WAC tournament teams. Here is a breakdown of Idaho's record in the WAC tournament.
