MOSCOW, Idaho –
University of Idaho soccer player Chelsea Small was recognized for the second
year in a row as a Capital One Academic All-District honoree in an announcement
on Friday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Small, a junior from Solana Beach, Calif. (Torrey Pines HS),
was voted to the All-District VII First Team for a second-consecutive season. A
2010 Second-Team Academic All-American, she holds a 3.96 cumulative grade-point
average in Secondary Education.
Small is a leader for the Vandals both on and off the field.
She is now a two-time First-Team Academic All-District honoree in addition to
her Academic All-America honor and her three Western Athletic Conference
All-Academic accolades.
She is also the program’s all-time leader in goals (31),
points (74), shots (314) and game-winners (12). She is a three-time First-Team
All-WAC honoree, including this season, and was the 2010 WAC offensive Player
of the Year and 2009 WAC Freshman of the year.
Since she was selected to the All-District First Team, Small
now moves onto the ballot for Academic All-America, to be voted upon by a
CoSIDA national board.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have
sophomore standing and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30. Nominations are
submitted and voted upon by each district’s sports information directors. Idaho
is in District VII, which includes schools in the states of Colorado, Idaho,
Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.
The honor gives Idaho an Academic All-District honoree for
the second year in a row and the fourth time in the last six seasons.
