|Vandals top Stetson 3-1|
LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Idaho volleyball team got its second win of the day and third of the weekend when it beat Stetson 3-1 (25-19; 22-25; 25-17; 25-17) on Saturday afternoon.
“We played a really steady match,” Idaho coach Debbie Buchanan said. “It was a great defensive game for us. As far as making adjustments and making plays, I’d say it was our best match.”
Alyssa Schultz led Idaho (3-1) with 13 kills and four blocks in the match, hitting .480, and Jessica Hastriter added 13 kills of her own as the Vandals took their second 3-1 decision of the day.
Sophomore setter Meredith Coba finished with 40 assists, five digs and three blocks. Jenna Ellis had a team-high 28 digs, Taylor Wilkinson had 13 and Terra Varney added 12. Peterson and Ashley Christman each had two aces for Idaho, and Christman added eight kills, eight digs and six blocks.
“Jenna had a nice game, the best she had this weekend,” Buchanan said of Ellis. “If you look at our passing, we did a great job. We just need to figure out how to stay consistent and fast. I would say if we walk away with one thing it’s can we make the adjustment and transition, and a little of the mentality with the ups and does of the match. I’m really proud of these guys, it’s a great start to the year.”
The Vandals held Stetson (1-3) to just a .071 hitting percentage, held a 74-72 edge in digs, and a 14.0-6.0 advantage in blocks.
Idaho heads south next week to play at the NAU Fiesta Classic at Northern Arizona, where the Vandals will face Cal-State Northridge, Northern Arizona and San Diego State.
