|Volleyball signs three|
MOSCOW, Idaho - The University of Idaho volleyball team has signed three exciting front line players to letters of intent.
Ashley Christman, Alyssa Schultz and Jessica Tiffany will join the Vandals for the 2010-11 season.
"This is a very athletic class," Idaho coach Debbie Buchanan said. "We have some great players in our program now, but I expect these newcomers to compete for playing time and make our team better. I am very excited and these players will have a huge impact on our program and during their time as Vandals."
Christman is a 6-foot outside hitter from Grand Forks (British Columbia) Secondary School where she earned MVP honors and was selected a team captain. She was selected for Baden Cup and went on to become a member of Team BC where she represented her province at the Western Elite Championships. She also was selected as one of ten members of the Class of 2010 by Volleyball Prospects and played three years with the Kelowna Volleyball Club.
Schultz is a 6-foot-3-inch middle blocker from Issaquah (Wash.) High School where earned first team all-KingCo as a senior with 252 kills and a .491 hitting percentage and was named to the AVCA Under Armour All-America High School and Seattle Times Volleyball Watch Lists. As a junior, she earned second team all-league honors and the State Sportsmanship Award while helping her team to the 4A state tournament. As a sophomore at A.C. Davis High School at Yakima, Wash., Schultz earned second team all-Columbia Basin League honors and helped her club team finish fifth at the Junior Olympics.
She recently tallied 10 kills in the championship match of the KingCo 4A tournament to help her team win the title and advance to the 4A state tournament this weekend.
Tiffany is a 6-0 outside hitter from Columbia High School at Boise, Idaho. She is a two-time all-Southern Idaho Conference selection and earned 4A SIC Player of the Year honors as a senior after helping her team to a 16-0 conference record and a fifth-place finish at the state tournament. She also earned a Player of the Week honor from the Idaho Statesman and was a team captain during her senior year.
She played three years with the Boise River Volleyball Club and made the national team each season. She also qualified for the IVA High Performance National Team as a junior.
"All three of these players were impact players on their high school and club teams this past year," Buchanan said. "All three are very physical players with great arms who can play the entire game. They are great additions to our program."
The Vandals wrap up the 2009 regular season with two matches at home. Idaho faces #3 Hawai'i Saturday (Nov. 14) and Boise State Thursday (Nov. 19) before heading to the Western Athletic Conference Tournament at Las Vegas Nov. 23-25.
