DENVER - Idaho freshman outside hitter Allison Walker has been named Verizon Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 1-7. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor of her career.

Walker, from Othello, Wash. (Othello HS), led the Vandals to a pair of five-set road victories last week over Nevada and Utah State. Walker had a double-double in Idaho's win at Utah State, compiling career-highs of 27 kills and five blocks with 11 digs. She had 22 kills, four digs and three blocks in the victory at Nevada. On the week, Walker tallied 49 kills with a .284 hitting percentage. She averaged 4.9 kills, 1.5 digs and 5.4 points per set.

"Our outsides, both Allison and Alicia Milo, played a huge part," Idaho coach Debbie Buchanan said. "A majority of the sets went to them on the outside, so I think that's a combined effort. I think Allison did some great things, obviously her numbers were great, she had a lot of kills. But I think both of our outsides really pulled through for our team because when we passed the ball well they had a majority of our kills."

Idaho's two wins on the week boosted the Vandals into third place in the WAC standings, as the Vandals battle for positioning in the six-team WAC tournament.

The honor is the second WAC Player of the Week honor for a Vandal this season, as Kelsey Taylor earned the nod for the week of Sept. 27-Oct.3.

The Vandals will be at home for three of their final four matches of the season, as they host New Mexico State (Nov. 11), Louisiana Tech (Nov. 13) and Fresno State (Nov. 15) before wrapping up the regular season at Hawai'i on Nov. 18. The WAC tournament is Nov. 22-24 in Las Vegas, Nev.
