|Olorunnife earns Academic honor|
MOSCOW, Idaho - On the basketball court, Yinka Olorunnife has been an all-Western Athletic Conference selection, WAC all-defensive team member, WAC all-tournament team member and a WAC Player of the Week. And off the court, Olorunnife is now a Capital One Academic All-District honoree.
Olorunnife was selected to the District 8 All-Academic team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She was one of 12 women's basketball players selected to the first- or second- team from District 8, which includes universities in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, British Columbia and Yukon.
Olorunnife, a senior from Windsor, Canada, holds a 3.45 grade-point average in exercise science, and is a two-time WAC All-Academic selection.
She is number-3 on the all-time rebounds list in both Idaho and WAC history with 952, and is on pace to break both records by season's end. She is averaging 14.2 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in 2010-11 to lead the Vandals in both categories.
She scored her milestone 1,000th point earlier in the season, and currently ranks ninth in Idaho history with 1,230 career points.
To be considered for Capital One Academic All-District mention, an athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, hold sophomore standing both academically and athletically, and must participate in at least 50 percent of his or her team's contests during the season. Nominee's are voted on by the Sports Information Directors within their district.
