LAS VEGAS After scoring 44 points and grabbing 28 rebounds in two Western Athletic Conference tournament games, Idaho senior women’s basketball player Yinka Olorunnife was named to the WAC all-tournament team on Saturday.

Olorunnife, the WAC’s all-time leading rebounder, averaged 22.0 points and 14.0 rebounds for the Vandals, which advanced to the WAC quarterfinals after beating (8) Boise State on Wednesday and falling to (4) Nevada on Thursday.

In Idaho’s opening round game, Olorunnife hit 6-of-12 shots from the field, and had 19 of her 21 points in the first half. She went 3-of-6 from long range, and also had an assist and a block in 38 minutes of action.

The very next day, Olorunnife had another dominating performance. In the quarterfinals against Nevada, she went 10-of-24 from the field, and tied her own Idaho WAC tournament single-game record of 15 rebounds. She also broke her own Idaho single season rebounding record, getting her 317th board of the season, breaking her previous mark of 310 set in 2008-09. She added four assists, two steals and a block in that game as well, and played all 40 minutes.

Overall, Olorunnife shot 44.4 percent (16-of-36) from the field, 36.4 percent (4-of-11) from long range, 80.0 percent (8-of-10) from the free throw line, and had five assists, two blocks and two steals.

The honor is the second of Olorunnife’s career, as she was named to the WAC all-tournament team in 2010 as well. It’s also the third WAC postseason honor for Olorunnife this season, as she was a second-team all-WAC selection and a WAC all-defensive team honoree as well.

WAC tournament champion Fresno State’s Jaleesa Ross was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, and was joined on the all-tournament team by Olorunnife, Louisiana Tech’s Adrienne Johnson, Fresno State’s Rosie Moult and Nevada’s Tahnee Robinson.
