|Small earns WAC Freshman of the Year|
DENVER - Record-setting Idaho freshman Chelsea Small has been selected the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year for women's soccer, as announced by the league Wednesday.
In addition to her WAC Freshman of the Year honor, she was also chosen to the all-WAC First Team. She is the first Idaho player to earn either honor in the WAC.
Small, a first-year forward from Solana Beach, Calif. (Torrey Pines HS), led the Vandals with eight goals and four assists on the year, for a freshman-record-tying total of 20 points. Emily Nelson also scored 20 points in 2000 with nine goals and two assists.
Small led the WAC with 101 shots for the season. In addition to being the best in the conference it is also an Idaho school record. The previous record, also formerly held by Nelson, was 70 shots in 2002. Small's eight goals and 20 points are also tied for fourth and her two game-winners and four assists are tied for fifth in Idaho single-season history.
Small was the only Vandal player represented on the all-WAC teams and she was the only freshman to earn first-team mention.
