|Taylor named Player of the Week|
DENVER - Idaho senior Kelsey Taylor can add Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week to her list of honors this year that already includes pre-season All-WAC and All-Tournament team at the Gonzaga Volleyball Tournament. Taylor was honored Monday for her work in two matches against Boise State the week of Sept. 27-Oct. 2.
Taylor hit .439 on the week with 19 kills and only one error on 41 attempts in her two matches against the Broncos. She also led the Vandals with 18 total blocks, including three solo blocks. Her 15 block assists give her 272 for her career, just 28 shy of 300. Taylor had her first career double-double on Sept. 29 at Boise State with 11 kills and a career-high 11 blocks. She followed that up with eight kills, seven digs and seven blocks in Idaho's four-set win over the Broncos on Oct. 2. Taylor averaged 2.11 kills, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 dig per set for the week.
"I think she's done some great things for our team, and we definitely need to get her more balls," Idaho coach Debbie Buchanan said. "I think she played two matches that were pretty solid, not only in the front row but she served tough, and she probably had our biggest runs from the service line."
Taylor's efforts helped the Vandals to a split two matches against BSU. The Vandals are 2-2 in WAC play and 7-8 on the season. It was Taylor's first career Player of the Week honor.
"She is definitely a leader on our team, not only vocal but she leads by example, which is awesome," Buchanan said. "We have some great players in the conference right now, so for her to be able to get it, I think that's a pretty big honor."
The Vandals return to action with three home matches this week, with San Jose State visiting on Oct. 4, Utah State coming to town on Oct. 6 in an ESPNU nationally televised match, and Nevada wrapping up Idaho's four-game home stand on Oct. 9.
