|Idaho duo earns regional rank|
SKILLMAN, N.J - After a strong showing during the fall season, Idaho's women's tennis doubles team of Vicky Lozano and Lauren Simpson have earned a No. 8 regional ranking heading into the spring tennis season.
Lozano, a freshman, and Simpson, a sophomore, won the doubles title at the Boise State Jack Taylor Classic in the fall, defeating BSU's No. 48 nationally ranked doubles tandem along the way. The duo also advanced to the doubles quarterfinals at the ITA Regional Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev.
"I'm glad to see that Vicky and Lauren were recognized for the great fall season they had," Idaho women's tennis coach Tyler Neill said. "They beat some very tough teams, including two that are in the rankings.
"It is also even more impressive considering they are one of the youngest teams out there, being only a freshman and sophomore. I think they are going to continue their great play this spring and hopefully it will propel them into the national rankings as well."
The Vandal women get the season underway on Jan. 22 when they face Seattle University and Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho.
