MOSCOW, Idaho – Coming off a win at home against Bakersfield, the Idaho men’s basketball team will try to build some momentum heading into February when it visits Grand Canyon in its only game of the week, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. (PT) in Phoenix, Ariz.

Thursday’s game will be broadcast live online at It will be the first meeting between the two programs. Grand Canyon will make the return trip to Moscow on Feb. 22.

The Vandals improved to 2-4 in the Western Athletic Conference and 8-12 overall when they came back from a seven-point deficit in the final 10 minutes against Bakersfield on Jan. 18. Idaho point guard Mike Scott, who has played 37.5 minutes per game in the last two games while filling in for the injured Glen Dean, is averaging 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and just one turnover while shooting 55.0 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from 3-point range in that time. He is coming off career-highs of 20 points and six assists in Idaho’s win against the ‘Runners.

GCU is led by Killian Larson’s 15.1 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. The ‘Lopes are 2-2 in their last four games -- all WAC contests -- after enduring a five-game losing streak heading into league play. Three Grand Canyon players -- Daniel Alexander, Sam Daly and Jerome Garrison -- played all 40 minutes in GCU’s last outing, a loss at Utah Valley on Jan. 11. The ‘Lopes will be coming off a stretch of 11 days without a game when they take on Idaho. Grand Canyon is coached by Dan Majerle, who is 7-10 in his first season as a head coach.

After Thursday’s game, the Vandals will have a little bit of time off before their next game, a matchup against Seattle U in the Cowan Spectrum on Feb. 1. That game is the first of three straight at home for the Vandals, as they also host New Mexico State (Feb. 6) and Texas-Pan American (Feb. 8).
