MOSCOW, Idaho – In the first all-time men’s basketball meeting between Idaho and Utah Valley, the Wolverines took advantage of a short-handed Vandal squad to capture a 71-66 victory in Moscow, Idaho on Jan. 16. The Vandals will look for revenge on Saturday when they pay the Wolverines a visit in Orem, Utah.

Saturday’s game tips off at 6 p.m. (PT) and will be streamed live, free of charge, at www.uvu.edu/uvutv. As always, the game will also be broadcast on the Vandal Radio Network and VandalXTRA.

Just seven Vandal players saw action in the first meeting against the Wolverines as guards Glen Dean and Sekou Wiggs were out with injury and post Ty Egbert was serving a suspension for a flagrant foul. Despite the thin roster, Idaho gave the league’s best team a run for its money before falling by five points.

Perimeter shooting was a struggle for the Vandals in that game, as Idaho went a season-low 2-for-16 (12.5 percent) from outside and shot just 37.9 percent from the field overall. Those are the numbers UVU is accustomed to seeing from its WAC opponents this season, as the Wolverines lead the league in WAC games in scoring defense (61.6), field goal percentage defense (40.6) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (28.3).

Utah Valley sits atop the WAC standings with an 8-2 WAC record and a 14-9 record overall. The Wolverines are coming off a 71-57 loss to Seattle U on Feb. 13, just the team’s second home loss of the season. The Vandals enter the game at 10-15 overall and 4-7 in the WAC after a 76-67 setback at Bakersfield on Feb. 13 ended Idaho’s bid for a three-game win streak.

The Vandals will return home next week for their final two home games. Idaho will step out of conference play for a Tuesday game against CSU Northridge on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. before hosting Grand Canyon at 1 p.m. on Feb 22. That game will be senior day for Idaho’s Stephen Madison, Joe Kammerer and Glen Dean.
