MOSCOW, Idaho - The Idaho women's basketball team will head to Vermillion, S.D., to take part in its first postseason tournament in a quarter century, as it tips off the Women's Basketball Invitational West Region quarterfinals against South Dakota at 4 p.m. (Pacific) on Thursday.

The Vandals are the No. 2 seed in the west, and face off against the No. 7 Coyotes. It is the first WBI appearance for both teams, and will be the first ever meeting between the Vandals and Coyotes.

Idaho enters the tournament with a 15-15 overall record, and went 7-9 in the Western Athletic Conference, while South Dakota is 19-11 overall, and went 10-2 to finish second in the Great West Conference.

Both teams have won games with defense this season, as the Vandals rank second in the WAC with just 63.9 points allowed per game, while South Dakota allows just 55.2 points per game. The Vandals have not won a game this season when allowing 70 or more points. The most points South Dakota has allowed in a win is 62, and the Coyotes have held opponents to under 50 points 12 times this season (12-0).

The Vandals are 3-1 all-time in the postseason tournaments. Idaho lost in the first round of the 1985 NCAA tournament, and went 3-0 to win the 1986 WNIT.

Idaho's 15 wins to this point are the most in a season since 2004-05, and with at least one win in the WBI, the Vandals will clinch their first .500 or better season in six years.
