|Vandals Hope for Road Sweep|
CHICAGO—The University of Idaho women’s basketball team will be looking for its second conference win of the season on Saturday at Chicago State (12:00 p.m. PT). The Vandals ended their three-game losing streak on Thursday with an 81-64 victory at Kansas City.
Idaho and Chicago State will meet for the first time since 1990 and only the second time overall on Saturday. Idaho holds a 1-0 series-lead over the Cougars. Idaho earned its third win of the 1990-91 season with a 79-51 win over CSU at the Westerwinds Classic in Macomb, Ill.
Idaho sits tied atop the Western Athletic Conference with a 1-0 early on in the conference season. The Vandals are 1-3 in their last four contests, averaging 71.8 points per game. Senior Alyssa Charlston leads the team with 21.0 scoring average in the Vandals last four matchups. Junior Stacey Barr has averaged 13.5 points per game and sophomore Christina Salvatore has added 10.5 points per game, including a season high 17 against UMKC.
Chicago State is 2-11 on the season and dropped its WAC opener to Seattle U, 85-58. The Cougars have nine freshmen and sophomores on their roster and no seniors. They are one of only two teams in the WAC (New Mexico State) to have no seniors on the roster. Tierra Williams leads the Cougars with 14.1 points per game.
Idaho will open its home conference schedule on with a pair of home games next week. Texas-Pan American will visit the Cowan Spectrum on Thursday, Jan. 9 and New Mexico State will be welcomed in on Saturday Jan. 11.
