MOSCOW, Idaho—The University of Idaho women’s basketball embarks on its final road trip of the season on Friday. Idaho will jet to Phoenix, Ariz., for its first trip to the GCU Arena on Saturday, to take on the Antelopes of Grand Canyon University.
“I know it is going to be a tough game,” head coach Jon Newlee stated. “They are undefeated at home and it is for a reason. They shoot the ball better at home. They defend better at home. They do a lot of things really well at home.”
Idaho (18-8, 11-1 WAC) will visit Grand Canyon for the first time in program history on Saturday. The Vandals went back and forth all game against the ‘Lopes, resulting in a hard fought 58-54 win inside Cowan Spectrum in the two teams’ first match up. Ali Forde tied her career-high with 15 rebounds and added eight points. Alyssa Charlston finished the night with her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and adding 13 rebounds.
The Vandals have an impressive 9-5 record road games this season. Last season the Silver and Gold finished 7-10 away from home. The Vandals are averaging 76.4 points per game on the road this season, outscoring opponents by an average of 11.2 points per game.
Saturday’s game is set for a 1 p.m. PT start. Idaho close out the regular season with three games at home, beginning with Seattle U on March 1, at Memorial Gym.
