MOSCOW, Idaho—With the 2014 Western Athletic Conference regular season title already under wraps, the University of Idaho women’s basketball team looks to close out the final two games of the season on a strong note, before jet setting to Las Vegas for the WAC Tournament.

“I think we need to go out and win these last two games,” head coach Jon Newlee said. “We will need to play hard, execute and stay focused to do everything we have done this year. I think we need to take that momentum of winning the last couple of games into the WAC Tournament and not take any steps back.”

Idaho (20-8, 13-1 WAC) will take on Chicago State Thursday night at the Cowan Spectrum. Idaho holds a 2-0 series lead over the Cougars. The Vandals ended their first conference road swing in Chicago. The Silver and Gold posted a then season-high 92 points against the Cougars it their first meeting. Idaho left Chicago with a 50-point win, 92-42. Idaho gained an early 15-4 lead and never looked back. Stacey Barr recorded 21 points and 12 rebounds. Christina Salvatore (16), Alyssa Charlston (15) and Ali Forde (14) also finished in double figures.

Chicago State (3-24, 0-14 WAC) lost its final home game of the season to Grand Canyon, 69-38. Sophomore Layne Murphy was one of three Cougars to lead the team with eight points. Murphy also grabbed seven rebounds, tied her career-high with five blocks and had three steals. It’s the 13th straight game in which she has had at least five rebounds. The Cougars have been shutout of the win column since their 55-51 win at Southern Illinois back on Dec. 12.

Thursday’s opening tip is set for 6 p.m. PT. Idaho will close out the season on Saturday when UMKC comes to town for Senior Day. The Vandals will honor seniors Alyssa Charlston and Addie Schivo prior to the 2 p.m. start.
